"The 'Matlo Woman' is bold, audacious & sexy"
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Jason Matlo, the man behind one of Canada's most luxurious and cultured clothing lines. I was invited to Alberta Fashion Week where Jason revealed his latest collection. Let me tell you, it was just as stunning as he is charming.
Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Jason now resides & designs in Vancouver, British Columbia. He certainly is no stranger to the fashion world. Fresh from school, he was named Designer of the Year at the Smirnoff Fashion Awards in 1998. Jason was also crowned the winning designer on one of Canada's first reality TV shows, "Making it Big".
In talking about his success, the Helen Lefeaux grad has quoted, “Helen Lefeaux said to her students ‘I don’t care how innovative your design is, if you don’t make a woman’s body look beautiful, you will not sell clothing.’”
That statement was proven true by what I saw of his Fall 2010 Collection. It was a mixture of all my favorite colors; black, grey & silver. The use of texture and careful attention to detail, really showed the true nature of Jason's artistry. Each piece I could envision myself wearing. They made a sophisticated statement, while giving off a confident & feminine feel at the same time.
Jason is setting the bar for Canadian fashion and he is setting it high. Who will need European fashion when we have such talent right here at home...
